"We are becoming a society that accepts the unacceptable, that looks the other way when our neighbors are in need or if a wrong is being committed. We continue to watch the videotape of professional basketball players jumping into the seats to attack unruly fans. We allow our children to play games that depict graphic violence. And all we do is say, "Tsk, tsk." We should do more. "

Tens of thousands of people in Grant Park and across the city cheered and wept as the man who came here in 1985 to work in one of the city's poorest neighborhoods was elected the USA's first black president. "Prayers do come true. This is a great country," said Martin Steele, 64, a janitor on his way to work who paused to watch a TV monitor at NBC studios showing Obama racking up wins in state after state. Steele, who is black, hugged two strangers and said, "We are making history tonight!" Shirley Herbert, 28, a hair stylist, stood nearby. "Is this real?" she asked. "If it is, this is the most important day of my life." In Grant Park, John Todd, 33, a lawyer who is black, listened to updates on a radio. He felt "a little disbelief" when it became clear that Obama would win as he recalled the dashed hopes of Democratic wins in 2000 and 2004. A black man in the White House "is something I thought I'd see maybe as an older man. This is really unbelievable," Todd said. Looking at the crowd around him, he said, "You're seeing America: every age, every race. It's encouraging. Maybe we can."
Jack Kreitinger, 57, an interior
designer who is white, said Obama's election means "we're moving to a
post-racial society. That's my dream and hope." Well-behaved
throngs watching a giant TV screen cheered as CNN projected Obama the
winner in
Part of history From polling places in black churches to white neighborhoods where lines of voters extended around the block, exhilaration built through the day. Thomas Molinari, 32, a Web technician who is white, got in line for the rally before noon. He was drawn, he said, by "history, hope and a better tomorrow." Charlene Williams, 47, a precinct captain at Beulah Shoesmith Elementary School, where Obama voted, said, "Today makes me feel like I'm somebody." At Grant Park, Marcia Henderson, a 55-year-old black woman, said she wanted to be here "to see Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream come to pass." Security was tight across the city, but the mood was festive. After nightfall, temperatures were in the 60s — a November rarity. Voters said they felt they were helping make history with Obama, who lives in the Hyde Park neighborhood. In black parts of the city's South Side, voters said this Election Day was like no other in their lifetimes.
"I wish my father were alive now,"
said Epsienola Freeman, 92, after voting for Obama at Mount Pisgah
Missionary Baptist Church. "I prayed, 'Dad, I'm going to vote. Mom, I'm
going to vote. I'm going to vote to make a black man our president.' I
know they are proud," she said. "I never thought I would see this day."
Margaret Bryant, 71, said, "I'm so thankful I'm living to see this
particular day." She was so confident of Obama's success, Bryant said,
she made a train reservation Tuesday morning to travel to Washington for
his inauguration. Concrete barriers blocked traffic from the streets around Obama's home. And bulletproof glass was erected around the stage at Grant Park, the sprawling landmark along Lake Michigan that was the site of violent clashes during the 1968 Democratic convention and the stage for a visit by Pope John Paul II in 1979. Andrea Caron, 27, a lawyer, sat on a blanket reading a book while waiting outside the park for hours. She wanted to witness history. "The last two elections were so demoralizing," she said. Lewis Kreinberg, 72, a Democrat with a long history of organizing Chicago's Jewish communities, voted for Obama and said, "It's about time to be able to see this happen." He noted that Obama and Abraham Lincoln share Illinois roots. "This child," he said of Obama, "is going to do something special." Inspirational win The mood was subdued at a hotel gathering of 150 members of the Chicago Young Republicans. "It's worse than I thought it was going to be," said mortgage broker Michael Volpe, 34. Other Republicans acknowledged the significance of Obama's victory. Marla Baxter, 37, a mother of five, voted for McCain, but said Obama "is somebody we can all be proud of, too. I tell my children that he's living proof that if they work hard enough, the color of their skin can't stop them from doing whatever they want." Some Obama supporters celebrated in private. Annie Herper, 51, watched results with her family. "I know Obama's going to win," she said. "I'm ready. This whole neighborhood is ready. The whole country is ready." Marie Washington, 61, stopped at church on her way home from the financial services company where she works. She prayed for Obama to "be given wisdom and strength and safety," she said, and "that all my ancestors, the slaves and the children of slaves, are somehow watching this historic moment." 5 reasons why McCain Lost...
1. The
current political environment President George Bush has the lowest job approval ratings in modern times, even lower than Richard Nixon's during the Watergate scandal. Nine in 10 Americans also think that things are on the wrong track. 2. Brand damage McCain damaged his 'maverick' reputation by coddling up to the religious right and President Bush. And that damage
was exacerbated in how his campaign has been conducted over the last few
months - negative attacks which voters could care less about and
emphasising issues which only conservatives seemed to care. 3. Sarah Palin Picking her for vice-president made McCain look like a total political opportunist as the US public concluded she was unqualified. Swing and moderate voters were also put off by her views on many issues and her personal attacks on the Democratic ticket. 4. Debates It is very unusual for one side to win every single debate, and Obama did, according to most opinion polls. Biden also best Palin. 5. Financial meltdown The way McCain handled the challenge didn't give voters much comfort. Even before Wall Street collapsed, the economy was already the number one issue. And with the meltdown, it became even more important.

Barack Obama 08 Music Video - J.P. DeLaire "In My Life"This video is from kbmc's friend, master musician/ songwriter, J.P. Delaire. Currently saxophonist for Michael Bolton. Formerly of Prince and Donny Osmond.
J. P. Delaire: After several months of witnessing some of the music videos and messages that are currently being aired on TV and across the Internet by various artists, I was inspired to address my support for Obama's candidacy in a more serious tone. "In My Life" touches on multiple world events that have affected our communities across the globe, and to our detriment here in the US, under the current Leadership. My belief is that Obama is the Leader who inspires and is able to make change. Obama's ability to communicate and unite is powerful. He is innovative, humble, charismatic, believable, genuine and extremely soulful. His ability to connect to a newer generation of people is what is appealing to me. We are a nation that is thirsty for truth and spirit behind what is being presented to us, and I believe that Obama is the person who is able to deliver. I wrote, "In My Life" to get people to think and feel... We are bright and intelligent people. Let's get out and vote, and enable CHANGE! In closing, I thank you for your time and consideration and I look forward to the opportunity of keeping touch! Warm Regards, JP DeLaire

21 Reasons Why iTunes
Sucks Recently I endeavored to reencode my entire CD collection. Something I was loathe to do. I hoped never to do it again. So in that spirit, and with drive space being so cheap, I decided it made sense to reencode everything in AIFF format instead of Apple's format du jour, AAC. The reason for this is two-fold: sloth and quality. Everyone should record their music this way. Well everyone who wants to avoid having to re-rip their entire library every time Apple or someone else comes out with a new encoder, like AAC.If you have your music ripped at full quality (unlike MP3 or AAC, AIFF is an uncompressed, full CD-quality format), you can just transcode your music folder to any format without re-ripping from the physical CDs -- well at least in theory. Also, you paid for the full quality of music on your CDs; you should enjoy it fully. To boot, nowadays, there is no reason to skimp on an encoding format when you can fit 500 full quality audio CDs on a drive that will cost you less than an iPod. For less than US$250.00 (as of a few months ago), I was able to buy a 250 GB hard drive. Incidentally, with another 250GB drive, I also chose to image (using DMG format via DiskCopy) all my computer CDs. This easy backup method allows you to mount and access your computer CDs more quickly; it also solves the "lost CD problem" by keeping all your CDs at the virtual ready in one place, but I digress. Although I chose the appropriate hard drive size for the job of reencoding all my music, I didn't fare as well in my choice of encoding program. Unfortunately, I chose iTunes. This swill sucks so bad, there just aren't enough invectives to insult it properly. To be fair, iTunes serves as a fine search and play system for your music. However, iTunes proved itself to be a pile of crap wholly unsuitable for the simple "digital hub" task of importing music. This was truly surprising considering the overall excellence and high quality of both Apple's hardware and software products in general. Regardless, I cannot express my extreme loathing for this misery-inducing blight of a program and its odious import abilities (or rather, inabilities). The problems were many (21 in fact), (aka How iTunes sucks, let me count the ways) More--- Another opinion: http://www.gentleye.com/digito-society/?p=227 and another: http://www.weezer.com/forum/default.aspx/cid/499/tid/141394 another: http://www.wolf-howl.com/random-thoughts/itunes-7-you-suck/ another: http://chris.pirillo.com/2007/07/30/itunes-sucks/ another: http://scienceblogs.com/strangerfruit/2008/08/why_does_itunes_suck_so_bad.php Do a Google search and see for yourself, iTunes sucks balls!! Note: iTunes hired two elementary school reviewers "The Cool Bros"? Who can't see past their zippers. They base their reviews along who appeals to them. Go figure. It just shows how sick and cocky iTunes has become. Instead of just saying "I don't like this song" They have to inject lines like calling the artist of the song "Ugly Bastards"! I would like to see a picture of these closet freaks. KB
U.S. Pilot Was Ordered To Shoot Down UFO.(True Story)By Peter Griffiths ![]() LONDON (Reuters) - Two U.S. fighter planes were scrambled and ordered to shoot down an unidentified flying object (UFO) over the English countryside during the Cold War, according to secret files made public on Monday. One pilot said he was seconds away from firing 24 rockets at the object, which moved erratically and gave a radar reading like "a flying aircraft carrier." The pilot, Milton Torres, now 77 and living in Miami, said it spent periods motionless in the sky before reaching estimated speeds of more than 7,600 mph (12,000 kph). After the alert, a shadowy figure told Torres he must never talk about the incident and he duly kept silent for more than 30 years. His story was among dozens of UFO sightings in defence ministry files released at the National Archives in London. In a written account, Torres described how he scrambled his F-86 D Sabre jet in calm weather from the Royal Air Force base at Manston, Kent in May 1957. "I was only a lieutenant and very much aware of the gravity of the situation. I felt very much like a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest," he said. "The order came to fire a salvo of rockets at the UFO. The authentication was valid and I selected 24 rockets. "I had a lock-on that had the proportions of a flying aircraft carrier," he added. "The larger the airplane, the easier the lock-on. This blip almost locked itself." At the last moment, the object disappeared from the radar screen and the high-speed chase was called off. He returned to base and was debriefed the next day by an unnamed man who "looked like a well-dressed IBM salesman." "He threatened me with a national security breach if I breathed a word about it to anyone," he said. The documents contain no official explanation for the incident, which came at a time of heightened tension between the West and the Soviet Union. Planes were on constant stand-by at British bases for a possible Soviet attack. The files blame other UFO sightings on weather balloons, clouds or normal aircraft. Torres said he had been waiting 50 years for an explanation. "I shall never forget it," he told the Times. "On that night I was ordered to open fire even before I had taken off. That had never happened before." UFO expert David Clarke said the sighting may have been part of a secret U.S. project to create phantom aircraft on radar screens to test Soviet air defences. "Perhaps what this pilot had seen was some kind of experiment in electronic warfare or maybe it was a UFO," he said. "Something very unusual happened." The files are online at: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos (Editing by Steve Addison)
New Artist Sherine Samms Album "Simple Things" Is Hot! Since I first heard Ms. Samms, I could see something was clear. This artist had a style that bordered on Jazz meets pop meets R&B and then sprinkle some gospel and summer breezes of cool winds and you have Sherine Samms. And I couldn't stop listening to her sound! Her voice, as far as I'm concerned, is different in its approach to her songs which is refreshing! And she has the face of an angel. Meaning she has class. Ms. Samms songs are a breath of fresh air in a world of stale music styles that the major record companies keep churning out year after year. Partly because of who these companies hire to either make their music or sign the same ole tired artists! Artist who don't have a clue on how to write music that comes from the heart. Enter people like "Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keyes, Jennifer Meade" all who have this skill, as does Sherine Samms. We are entering a new era (i.e. Mr. Obama) and it stands to reason that a new music movement is coming as well. So get ready people, real music is coming back and Ms. Samms will be of that group who paves the way. "If your looking for something different and fresh, check out Sherine Samms cd "Simple Things" by visiting her web page by clicking on her picture. I feel this artist will make her mark in the music world, real soon..." KB
Former Bush press secretary backs Obama![]() NEW YORK – Scott McClellan, President Bush's former press secretary who angered old colleagues with a tell-all book earlier this year, says he is backing Barack Obama for president. McClellan is the second former administration official to back the Democratic candidate this week. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell came out Sunday for Obama. While Powell chose "Meet the Press" to make his news, McClellan did it at the taping of comedian D.L. Hughley's new talk show, which is premiering 10 p.m. Saturday on CNN. Hughley found a little begging helped. "We are a new show and your endorsement would probably mean a lot," Hughley said Thursday. "But don't look at the fact that I am black or, no pressure. Endorse somebody, damn it!" McClellan, who was Bush's chief spokesman from July 2003 to April 2006, said he's always planned to support the candidate that has the best chance for changing the way Washington works and getting things done. "I will be voting for Barack Obama," he said. McClellan is also giving an extended interview on "Larry King Live" on Friday to talk about his endorsement. McClellan grew disillusioned after leaving the administration and wrote a book, "What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington's Culture of Deception," that surprised many for its blunt talk. He admitted to being part of a White House effort to shade the truth about the case for war in Iraq. The White House said Bush was surprised and saddened about the book.
Is Capital One The Worst Credit Card Company Ever? Yes!Posted: 2007-03-26 by Kerry [send email] Read
about one persons nightmare about Capital One's Fraud business
practices! This company has more complaints than most credit card companies. Ever wonder why? And recently their profits have dropped 42 percent! Here is one reason why.... I am
seeking to file a complaint against Capital One Credit Card Company for
fraudulent practices. I have also contacted my congressperson and both
California Senators in writing. I will also copy this complaint to all
consumer websites (the internet is a wonderful thing), The Attorney
General of Virginia, the Commissioner of Financial Institutions as well
as CNN, Sixty Minutes, Primetime and anyone else I can think of who can
speak out against this type of egregious behavior. I know it's hard for
the media conglomerates to step forward and dig deeper when their
advertising revenue comes from companies like Capital One. However,
after watching some of the hearings in Washington last week against
banks and credit card companies charging excessive fees to their
customers, I felt compelled to finally express my frustration for the
hard working tax payers of this country and to ask Capital One’s CEO,
Richard Fairbank to stop abusing your customers.

Angela Bofill - Angie
Amazon.com
Exotic and exhilarating, sweet and
soothing, picturesque and inviting. She conjures vivid imagery
with her interpretations. I discovered "Angie" about five years
ago not too long after I started college. I picked up a vinyl
copy, and I have been in love with Angela ever since. This
beautifully packaged reissue truly does the album justice.
"Under the Moon and Over the Sky" is a jazz/fusion delight; it's
Afro-Cuban rhythms are intoxicating. The highs and lows Bofill
hits will give you chills. It is that kind of drama that makes
this record a compelling listen. Her definitive take on "This
Time I'll Be Sweeter" is a joyous, moving masterpiece. He pleas
of "have faith in me" are almost palpable. But in my opinion,
the best track is "The Only Thing I Would Wish For." The jazzy
vocal arrangement and flute work by Dave Valentin paint a real
picture of what GRP was all about in its infancy. So this CD is
well worth the price... it is a moving experience.
