"We are becoming a society that accepts the unacceptable, that looks the other way when our neighbors are in need or if a wrong is being committed. We continue to watch the videotape of professional basketball players jumping into the seats to attack unruly fans. We allow our children to play games that depict graphic violence. And all we do is say, "Tsk, tsk." We should do more. "

Another Comedic Great, George Carlin Dies

Comedian George Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, died of heart failure Sunday, according to publicist Jeff Abraham. Carlin went to St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon, complaining of chest pain, and died at 5:55 p.m. PT. Carlin performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, and maintained a busy performing schedule, which included regular TV specials for HBO. "He was a genius and I will miss him dearly," Jack Burns, who was the other half of a comedy duo with Carlin in the early 1960s, told The Associated Press. Carlin was "a hugely influential force in stand-up comedy. He had an amazing mind, and his humor was brave, and always challenging us to look at ourselves and question our belief systems, while being incredibly entertaining. He was one of the greats," actor and comedian Ben Stiller said in a statement.

Carlin was often quoted, his best lines traded like baseball cards. "Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?" began one famous routine. Another pointed out the differences between the pastoral game of baseball and the militaristic game of football: "Baseball is played on a diamond, in a park. The baseball park! Football is played on a gridiron, in a stadium, sometimes called Soldier Field or War Memorial Stadium."

Then there were the non sequiturs: "The bigger they are, the worse they smell," he observed. He filled three best-selling books, more than 20 record albums and countless television appearances with his material. He appreciated the impact his words made on fans. "These are nice additional merit badges that you earn if you've left a mark on a person or on some people," he told CNN.com in 2004. "I'd say it's flattering, but flattery implies insincerity, so I call it a compliment."

Carlin was probably best known for a routine that began, "I was thinking about the curse words and the swear words, the cuss words and the words that you can't say." It was a monologue, known as "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television," that got Carlin arrested and eventually led to the U.S. Supreme Court. The "Seven Dirty Words" bit prompted a landmark indecency case after New York's WBAI-FM radio aired it in 1973. The case was appealed to the Supreme Court, which ruled 5-4 that the sketch was "indecent but not obscene," giving the Federal Communications Commission broad leeway to determine what constituted indecency on the airwaves. "So my name is a footnote in American legal history, which I'm perversely kind of proud of," Carlin said. "In the context of that era, it was daring.

"It just sounds like a very self-serving kind of word. I don't want to go around describing myself as a 'groundbreaker' or a 'difference-maker' because I'm not and I wasn't," he said. "But I contributed to people who were saying things that weren't supposed to be said." In November, Carlin was slated to receive the 2008 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, given by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. "In his lengthy career as a comedian, writer and actor, George Carlin has not only made us laugh, but he makes us think," Kennedy Center Chairman Stephen Schwarzman said in a statement. "His influence on the next generation of comics has been far-reaching."

In a typically wry response, Carlin said, "Thank you, Mr. Twain. Have your people call my people." Carlin was born on May 12, 1937, in New York. He dropped out of high school in the ninth grade and joined the Air Force, where his misfit ways continued -- he received three courts-martial and several punishments. After leaving the military, he spent a few years in radio, where he met Burns. In 1960, the pair left to pursue a comedy career in Los Angeles. Burns told the AP that the Carlin of those years was "fairly conservative," but things changed when the two saw Lenny Bruce in the early '60s.

"It was an epiphany for George," Burns told the AP. "The comedy we were doing at the time wasn't exactly groundbreaking, and George knew then that he wanted to go in a different direction." Carlin remembered a similar feeling, he told CNN.com. "[His career] represented a lot of such honesty on the stage, the willingness to confront a lot of sacred cows and expose them," he said of Bruce. "He did it with a great deal of irreverence and with a lot of brilliance."

Carlin went solo in 1962. For most of the decade, he was a conservative-looking presence: clean-shaven, attired in jacket and tie, making his amused observations to audiences on "The Tonight Show" and "The Ed Sullivan Show."

But as the times changed, so did Carlin. He let his hair down, grew a beard and dressed in jeans and tie-dyed T-shirts. It was this Carlin who became a hit with college audiences in the early '70s and made such albums as "FM & AM" and "Occupation: Foole."  Carlin hosted the first broadcast of "Saturday Night Live" in October 1975. He will be missed.

New Artist Sherine Samms Album "Simple Things" Is Hot!

Since I first heard Ms. Samms, I could see something was clear. This artist had a style that bordered on Jazz meets pop meets R&B and then sprinkle some gospel and summer breezes of cool winds and you have Sherine Samms. And I couldn't stop listening to her sound!

Her voice, as far as I'm concerned, is different in its approach to her songs from what you would hear in today's music world. And she has the face of an angel. Meaning she has class. Ms. Samms songs are a breath of fresh air in a world of stale music styles that the major record companies keep churning out year after year. Partly because of who these companies hire to either make their music or sign the same ole tired artists! Artist who don't have a clue on how to write music that comes from the heart. Enter people like "Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Alicia Keyes, Jennifer Meade" all who have this skill, as does Sherine Samms. We are entering a new era (i.e. Mr. Obama)and it stands to reason that a new music movement is coming as well. So get ready people, real music is coming back and Ms. Samms will be of that group who paves the way.

"If your looking for something different and fresh, check out Sherine Samms cd "Simple Things" by visiting her web page by clicking on her picture. I feel this artist will make her mark in the music world, real soon..."

Is Capital One The Worst Credit Card Company Ever? Yes!

Posted: 2007-03-26 by Kerry [send email]

Read about one persons nightmare about Capital One's Fraud business practices!

This company has more complaints than most credit card companies. Ever wonder why? And recently their profits have dropped 42 percent! Here is one reason why....

I am seeking to file a complaint against Capital One Credit Card Company for fraudulent practices. I have also contacted my congressperson and both California Senators in writing. I will also copy this complaint to all consumer websites (the internet is a wonderful thing), The Attorney General of Virginia, the Commissioner of Financial Institutions as well as CNN, Sixty Minutes, Primetime and anyone else I can think of who can speak out against this type of egregious behavior. I know it's hard for the media conglomerates to step forward and dig deeper when their advertising revenue comes from companies like Capital One. However, after watching some of the hearings in Washington last week against banks and credit card companies charging excessive fees to their customers, I felt compelled to finally express my frustration for the hard working tax payers of this country and to ask Capital One’s CEO, Richard Fairbank to stop abusing your customers.

For the past six months I have attempted to close one of my three Capital One Credit Card Accounts. My husband has one for business, I have a family use card and the one I’m attempting to close since October 2006, was my business credit card. I no longer have the business and therefore had no need for a third card. We have been Capital One cardholders for many years and have always enjoyed a low interest rate of 9.9% on all three of our cards, due to our good credit... until I attempted to close my business card in late October 2006. That’s when things changed.

On October 27th, 2006 I called Capital One and asked...click for more.

Stellar sound

The audio quality is everything you would expect from the people behind ReCycle and ReBirth. But pristine sound quality is only half the story; the instruments and effects in Reason are loaded with character and attitude. Reason will not just impress, it will inspire you.

All controls work as their real-life counterparts

Each unit in Reason's virtual rack is edited from its own onscreen front panel. All the sliders, knobs, buttons, and functions are right in front of you, ready to be tweaked, turned, and twisted in absolute real time. And all your front-panel actions - filter adjustments, pitch bending, gain riding, or panning - can be recorded and automated in the Reason sequencer.

Need more gear?

In Reason, you will never run out of rackspace. No problem. Choose a synth, a drum machine, a loop player, or any device from the Create menu and it will instantly appear in your rack, logically patched into the signal chain. And because Reason is designed to go easy on your computer, you can repeat the process until you're more than happy. If you ever wished you had eleven samplers and ten compressors, Reason is definitely for you. And if you have created more machines than you have mixer channels, just create another mixer.

What's new in 3.0?

For big, tight, loud-sounding tracks; extra stereo width; increased clarity; and punchier bass; meet MClass, the new mastering suite in Reason. 3.0. MClass brings you four separate pro level mastering units designed to add power, presence, and an overall professional feel to your Reason mixes.

Play your Reason system!

Coupled with the Combinator, the new features in Reason 3.0 - a fresh sound library, an enhanced browser, and the new Remote protocol - turn your rack into a very live-friendly, playable instrument.

True hardware integration!

With the Reason 3.0 browser, the task of finding and loading sounds and patches becomes just as smooth and intuitive as the process of making good music in Reason. Reason's sound palette is getting bigger, better, wider, and wilder. The new sound bank in Reason 3.0 adds huge quantities of instruments, sounds, and patches to Reason's already massive library. Focusing on carefully sampled musical instruments and useful Combinator setups rather than loops and beats, the new soundbank takes a more playable, more performance-friendly direction.

O-Dot's "Grind Or Die" Is On The Loose!

Finally! A rapper with his own sound and style of music! Check him out..

Of all the new sounds in Hip Hop today, I find O-Dot's sound refreshing! One song that's all that is "Mack Down". Those damm keyboards is on the money. The way I see it, Rap lyrics have to have a rhythmic sense that compliments the music, and O-Dot has this skill! His rap makes the song a pleasure to the ears. I don't see why this man doesn't make to the top with the crap one hit wonders out today or those punks who get contracts because someone in their family is famous! O-Dot doesn't need none of that crap, he can make it with his talent. I'm telling ya all, "Grind Or Die" can compete with the top dogs of today's rap. Debra Haj's Book "Deadringer" Is A Hit With Readers

 Debra Haj, Click To Order

Thats right, a new writer is on the scene with her book "Deadringer".  I personally know about the talents of this writer because we co-wrote several songs together, that's right, she also is an accomplished singer and writer of songs. Here is the book's Editorial Review:

"When the target is you! A reoccurring dream becomes a real live nightmare when the saga Deadringer unfolds. A deathbed confession unravels a tale of lies and deceit. Charles Mitchell is the CEO of C&J Records, and is surrounded by jealousy, loyalty, love, and one big lie that someone will use to get even. Casey, Phillip, Carey and Chloe all are a part of his life, but what do you do when the target is you? Find out why little white lies even when done with good intentions can fester and grow into the unspeakable and the sometimes the unforgivable."

Does MTV Suck? Yes!

Remember when MTV used to play music videos? Good ones? I remember. Today is a different story - instead of seeing videos we now see game shows and intellectually-challenged shows like Loveline and Road Rules. Sure there were moments of brilliance, like Liquid Television and Beavis and Butthead. But those days are long gone. Now we get endless Real World marathons.

What happened to the videos? Where is the cutting edge music? The music that is played is simple mainstream top-40 crap that is pushed down our throats. Do I want to see Mariah Carey being chased by a helicopter or a bunch of annoying, no-talent "spice" girls jumping around and singing off-key? Nope, or the endless Rappers showing me money, and bitches shaking their booties while they make up an array of new slang words. (The most beautifulest girl, remember that gem?)

I also get a kick out of how MTV censors videos. Blurring out guns or pot leaves and deleting curse words. Are they protecting our youth? No way. They are just covering their own asses.  It's easy to conveniently ignore the fact that the kids will see a Snoop Doggy Dog video, then go out and buy Snoop Doggy Dog (isn't he old now ?)records, thus being exposed to everything MTV is hiding from them anyway. MTV is run by a bunch of old hypocrites, who want to have their cake and eat it too.

This so-called music channel is also responsible for the 90's jump-cut style of editing. Everything comes fast and furious at different angles, and you only get a glimpse of something for a second or two. It's like programming for kids with Attention Deficit Disorder, or like flipping through the cable channels with the remote because there's really nothing on. Want an example of the bad side effect of this? Go see Armageddon or Blade 2.

I don't believe that this is what people want in their MTV. I believe that this is what people are forced by MTV to want. Damn, I'm old. What's on VH-1?

Chapter Seven: "I Don't Live Today"
The Jimi Hendrix Political Harassment, Kidnap & Murder Experience Expose'

By
Alex Constantine

He didn't die from a drug overdose. He was not an out-of-control dope fiend. Jimi Hendrix was not a junkie. And anyone who would use his death as a warning to stay away from drugs should warn people against the other things that killed Jimi - the stresses of dealing with the music industry, the craziness of

being on the road, and especially, the dangers of involving oneself in a radical, or even unpopular, political movements.  COINTELPRO was out to do more than prevent a Communist menace from overtaking the United States, or keep the Black Power movement from burning down cities. COINTELPRO was out to obliterate its opposition and ruin the reputations of the people involved in the antiwar movement, the civil rights movement, and the rock revolution. Whenever Jimi Hendrix's death is blamed on drugs, it accomplishes the goals of the FBI's program. It not only slanders Jimi's personal and professional reputation, but the entire rock revolution in the 60's.

                                                                                                           Angela Bofill - Angie

Amazon.com click here

Exotic and exhilarating, sweet and soothing, picturesque and inviting. She conjures vivid imagery with her interpretations. I discovered "Angie" about five years ago not too long after I started college. I picked up a vinyl copy, and I have been in love with Angela ever since. This beautifully packaged reissue truly does the album justice. "Under the Moon and Over the Sky" is a jazz/fusion delight; it's Afro-Cuban rhythms are intoxicating. The highs and lows Bofill hits will give you chills. It is that kind of drama that makes this record a compelling listen. Her definitive take on "This Time I'll Be Sweeter" is a joyous, moving masterpiece. He pleas of "have faith in me" are almost palpable. But in my opinion, the best track is "The Only Thing I Would Wish For." The jazzy vocal arrangement and flute work by Dave Valentin paint a real picture of what GRP was all about in its infancy. So this CD is well worth the price... it is a moving experience.
