Does MTV Suck? Yes!

"We are becoming a society that accepts the unacceptable, that looks the other way when our neighbors are in need or if a wrong is being committed. We continue to watch the videotape of professional basketball players jumping into the seats to attack unruly fans. We allow our children to play games that depict graphic violence. And all we do is say, "Tsk, tsk." We should do more. "

Mary Travers, whose ringing, earnest vocals with the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary made songs like “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “If I Had a Hammer” and “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” enduring anthems of the 1960s protest movement, died on Wednesday at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut. She was 72 and lived in Redding, Conn. The cause was cancer, said Heather Lylis, a spokeswoman.
Ms. Travers brought a powerful voice and an unfeigned urgency to music that resonated with mainstream listeners. With her straight blond hair and willowy figure and two bearded guitar players by her side, she looked exactly like what she was, a Greenwich Villager directly from the clubs and the coffeehouses that nourished the folk-music revival.
“She was obviously the sex appeal of that group, and that group was the sex appeal of the movement,” said Elijah Wald, a folk-blues musician and a historian of popular music.
Ms.
Travers’s voice blended
seamlessly with those of her
colleagues, Peter Yarrow and
Paul Stookey, to create a rich
three-part harmony that
propelled the group to the top
of the pop charts. Their first
album, “Peter,
Paul and Mary,”
which featured the hit singles
“Lemon Tree” and “If I Had a
Hammer,” reached No. 1 shortly
after its release in March
1962 and stayed there for
seven weeks, eventually
selling more than two million
copies.
The group’s interpretations of Bob Dylan’s “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right” translated his raw vocal style into a smooth, more commercially acceptable sound. The singers also scored big hits with pleasing songs like the whimsical “Puff the Magic Dragon” and John Denver’s plaintive “Leaving on a Jet Plane.”
Their sound may have been commercial and safe, but early on their politics were somewhat risky for a group courting a mass audience. Like Mr. Yarrow and Mr. Stookey, Ms. Travers was outspoken in her support for the civil-rights and antiwar movements, in sharp contrast to clean-cut folk groups like the Kingston Trio, which avoided making political statements.
Peter, Paul and Mary went on to perform at the 1963 March on Washington and joined the voting-rights marches from Selma to Montgomery, Ala., in 1965.
Over the years they performed frequently at political rallies and demonstrations in the United States and abroad. After the group disbanded, in 1970, Ms. Travers continued to perform at political events around the world as she pursued a solo career.
“They made folk music not just palatable but accessible to a mass audience,” David Hajdu, the author of “Positively Fourth Street,” a book about Mr. Dylan, Joan Baez and their circle, said in an interview. Ms. Travers, he added, was crucial to the group’s image, which had a lot to do with its appeal. “She had a kind of sexual confidence combined with intelligence, edginess and social consciousness — a potent combination,” he said. “If you look at clips of their performances, the camera fixates on her. The act was all about Mary.”
Mary Allin Travers was born on Nov. 9, 1936, in Louisville, Ky. She was a great talent that will be missed.
Did Michael Jackson's Accusers Lie For Money?
Ever wonder what happened to the people who claimed Michael Jackson was a pedophile? People who put money over justice for their children? Funny how the media didn't even care to check these people and their stories out. They beamed their reports out onto the airwaves like wildfire, reporting their stories relentlessly. Reporting as though they were trying to brainwash the public to see Michael through their eyes. A view that turned out to be a nightmare. Read and enjoy.....
Janet Arvizo
From the Smoking Gun 2005: The mother of the Los Angeles boy who accused Michael Jackson of sexual molestation was charged today with welfare fraud and perjury. The five-count felony indictment charges Janet Arvizo with a single fraud count and four instances of lying to secure nearly $19,000 in welfare payments to which she was not entitled, according to the below court filing.
Arvizo, 37, who is scheduled for an September 7 Superior Court arraignment, is pictured at right in a mug shot from a 1998 arrest. During her testimony at the Jackson trial, Arvizo cited the Fifth Amendment in refusing to answer questions about how she succeeded in obtaining welfare payments while having more than $30,000 in the bank. During the defense case, a Jackson lawyer walked a California Department of Social Services representative through Arvizo's welfare applications, pointing out how she repeatedly failed to disclose, as required by law, assets and financial assistance she was receiving.
Among many devastating brickbats tossed at Arvizo during the Jackson trial, the welfare fraud allegations were particularly damaging since they appeared to be backed by government documents (not to mention that Arvizo refused to address them for fear of incriminating herself). She lost her case because instead of going to the police with her claims, she went to a civil attorney! This parent loves her children, doesn't she???
Evan Chandler
Remember this nut
case? Read:
Father, who accused singer of molesting son and is now suing again, ought to get a life. Read
On July 2, 1993, in a private telephone conversation, Chandler was tape recorded as saying,
There was no reason why he [Jackson] had to stop calling me...I picked the nastiest son of a bitch I could find [Evan Chandler's lawyer, Barry Rothman], all he wants to do is get this out in the public as fast as he can, as big as he can and humiliate as many people as he can. He's nasty, he's mean, he's smart and he's hungry for publicity. Everything's going to a certain plan that isn't just mine. Once I make that phone call, this guy is going to destroy everybody in sight in any devious, nasty, cruel way that he can do it. I've given him full authority to do that. Jackson is an evil guy, he is worse than that and I have the evidence to prove it. If I go through with this, I win big-time. There's no way I lose. I will get everything I want and they will be destroyed forever...Michael's career will be over.
—Evan Chandler
In the same conversation, when asked how this would affect his son, Chandler replied, "That's irrelevant to me...It will be a massacre if I don't get what I want. It's going to be bigger than all us put together...This man [Jackson] is going to be humiliated beyond belief...He will not sell one more record". The recorded conversation was a critical aspect of Jackson's defense against the upcoming allegation made against him. He and his supporters argue that he was the victim of a jealous father whose only goal was to extort money from the singer.
In early August, Chandler, a registered dentist, extracted a tooth from his son's mouth, and was later forced to admit that he used the controversial sedative sodium Amytal during the procedure. Under the influence of the drug, Jordan alleged that Jackson had touched his penis. Experts state that the drug sodium Amytal "makes patients extremely susceptible to suggestions".[1] Dr Lewis Strong, a Los Angeles psychiatrist stated, "You can't trust it, I never use it in my practice. I have found it to be unreliable. It's certainly not a truth serum". Dr Kenneth Gottlieb, a San Francisco psychiatrist who has used the drug, stated, "I would never want to use a drug that tampers with a person's unconscious unless there was no other drug available, and I would not use it without resuscitation equipment in case of allergic reaction".
Over the next couple of months both parties engaged in unsuccessful (out of court) financial negotiations, with Chandler and his legal team asking for $20 million, or the issue would be taken to criminal court. Jackson declined the offer, saying, "No way in Hell". A few weeks later, Jackson's legal team gave a counter-offer to the value of $1 million, which was declined by Chandler. The father then lowered his request to $15 million; Jackson rejected this and lowered his original counter-offer to $350,000. With both sides unable to reach an agreement, Chandler decided he would take it to court. Chandler then took his son to see a psychiatrist called Dr. Mathis Abrams, and during the three-hour session with the doctor, Jordan Chandler said he had had a sexual relationship with Jackson that included incidents of kissing, masturbation and oral sex that went on for months. He then repeated these allegations to police and gave a detailed description of what he alleged was Jackson's penis. So if these allegations were true, how come the police didn't convict Michael? Not because of the agreement between Mr. Jackson and Mr. Chandler, but because the boy made up the allegations based on his father's demands! Again, why didn't the media pick up on this? Very strange.
Traci Milburn's New Artist "Dap Daniel"

I had the pleasure of meeting with music manager, Tracie Milburn regarding her new artist "Dap Daniel" and his pending release "Turning Up The Heat" (Also available on iTunes) and she asked me to review the song. I'm the type of person if a song doesn't grab my interest fast, I'm lost. This didn't happen with this artist's song. I heard an intelligent sounding, hip, stupid fresh beat backing this songs premise. Dap turns up the heat and brings it to you with a professional sounding tune. I believe this song will jump up the charts as soon as its released to the public.
Under the direction of his manager, Ms. Milburn, I see an skilled and innovative approach that will bring us more of this artist and others under her helm. I give this song a A for it's sound and beat. Expect more from Dap Daniels. I believe he has a bright future.

Something New For The Music World?
Remember this name, Sarah J. Fox. Who is she? A new voice in the music world. How do I know? Because I've compared this artist's sound to what is within the market today. What I've found is someone who has their own sound! Both in voice and music. This is what is needed in today's music, a fresh new concept of vocal ability with a touch of a unique style.
This is the kind of artist the major record companies used to send talent scouts out to fetch and offer contracts to. A young, fresh, beautiful and talented music professional. This lady has it all and she also has a beautiful soul on top of that! I'm going to go out on a limb with this one because I have faith she will be a star. Why? Because she dares to be different in a world of music fakery. Check out her Myspace page and listen for yourself. The experience will be like being in a hot room and opening a window and getting hit in the face with fresh air.

about one persons nightmare about Capital One's Fraud business
practices!
This company has more complaints than most credit card companies. Ever wonder why? And recently their profits have dropped 42 percent! Here is one reason why....
I am
seeking to file a complaint against Capital One Credit Card Company for
fraudulent practices. I have also contacted my congressperson and both
California Senators in writing. I will also copy this complaint to all
consumer websites (the internet is a wonderful thing), The Attorney
General of Virginia, the Commissioner of Financial Institutions as well
as CNN, Sixty Minutes, Primetime and anyone else I can think of who can
speak out against this type of egregious behavior. I know it's hard for
the media conglomerates to step forward and dig deeper when their
advertising revenue comes from companies like Capital One. However,
after watching some of the hearings in Washington last week against
banks and credit card companies charging excessive fees to their
customers, I felt compelled to finally express my frustration for the
hard working tax payers of this country and to ask Capital One’s CEO,
Richard Fairbank to stop abusing your customers.
For the past six months I have attempted to close one of my three
Capital One Credit Card Accounts. My husband has one for business, I
have a family use card and the one I’m attempting to close since October
2006, was my business credit card. I no longer have the business and
therefore had no need for a third card. We have been Capital One
cardholders for many years and have always enjoyed a low interest rate
of 9.9% on all three of our cards, due to our good credit... until I
attempted to close my business card in late October 2006. That’s when
things changed.
On October 27th, 2006 I called Capital One and asked...click

Does MTV Suck? Yes!

What happened to the videos? Where is the cutting edge music? The music that is played is simple mainstream top-40 crap that is pushed down our throats. Do I want to see Mariah Carey being chased by a helicopter or a bunch of annoying, no-talent "spice" girls jumping around and singing off-key? Nope, or the endless Rappers showing me money, and bitches shaking their booties while they make up an array of new slang words. (The most beautifulest girl, remember that gem?)
I also get a kick out of how MTV censors videos. Blurring out guns or pot leaves and deleting curse words. Are they protecting our youth? No way. They are just covering their own asses. It's easy to conveniently ignore the fact that the kids will see a Snoop Doggy Dog video, then go out and buy Snoop Doggy Dog (isn't he old now ?)records, thus being exposed to everything MTV is hiding from them anyway. MTV is run by a bunch of old hypocrites, who want to have their cake and eat it too.
This so-called music channel is also responsible for the 90's
jump-cut style of editing. Everything comes fast and furious at
different angles, and you only get a glimpse of something for a second
or two. It's like programming for kids with Attention Deficit Disorder,
or like flipping through the cable channels with the remote because
there's really nothing on. Want an example of the bad side effect of
this? Go see Armageddon or Blade 2.
I don't believe that this is what people want in their MTV. I
believe that this is what people are forced by MTV to
want. Damn, I'm old. What's on VH-1?

He didn't die from a drug overdose. He was not an out-of-control dope fiend. Jimi Hendrix was not a junkie. And anyone who would use his death as a warning to stay away from drugs should warn people against the other things that killed Jimi - the stresses of dealing with the music industry, the craziness of
being on the road, and especially, the dangers of involving oneself in a radical, or even unpopular, political movements. COINTELPRO was out to do more than prevent a Communist menace from overtaking the United States, or keep the Black Power movement from burning down cities. COINTELPRO was out to obliterate its opposition and ruin the reputations of the people involved in the antiwar movement, the civil rights movement, and the rock revolution. Whenever Jimi Hendrix's death is blamed on drugs, it accomplishes the goals of the FBI's program. It not only slanders Jimi's personal and professional reputation, but the entire rock revolution in the 60's.

Angela Bofill - Angie
Exotic and exhilarating, sweet and
soothing, picturesque and inviting. She conjures vivid imagery
with her interpretations. I discovered "Angie" about five years
ago not too long after I started college. I picked up a vinyl
copy, and I have been in love with Angela ever since. This
beautifully packaged reissue truly does the album justice.
"Under the Moon and Over the Sky" is a jazz/fusion delight; it's
Afro-Cuban rhythms are intoxicating. The highs and lows Bofill
hits will give you chills. It is that kind of drama that makes
this record a compelling listen. Her definitive take on "This
Time I'll Be Sweeter" is a joyous, moving masterpiece. He pleas
of "have faith in me" are almost palpable. But in my opinion,
the best track is "The Only Thing I Would Wish For." The jazzy
vocal arrangement and flute work by Dave Valentin paint a real
picture of what GRP was all about in its infancy. So this CD is
well worth the price... it is a moving experience.
